Transition to Independent Living Allowance

TILA is a one-off payment (not a loan) to young people who are or have been

  • In State care (Formal care)
  • Living away from their parents under the care of someone else while under 18 years
    (Informal care)
  • Living in Indigenous Kinship care (Informal care)
  • And who are at risk of an unsuccessful transition to independent living
  • Eligibility:

  • Young people between 15 - 25 who have been in Formal care
  • Young people between 15 - 21 who have been in Informal care and are on or have been on an independent payment from Centrelink (YA - UTLAH, Disability pension, Special benefit) during the time they were in care

Applications must include – Referral form signed by young person, Verification form signed by Centrelink or CYFS, and quotes of the goods being purchased.
