Cultural Awareness
A series of Community Profile sessions designed for teachers who have students from refugee backgrounds. The sessions enable a better understanding of their families, culture and country of origin. Separate sessions are offered on: The Sudan, Central Africa, West Africa and Afghanistan.
Offered to school or agency groups upon request. These sessions are partly funded by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship's Settlement Grants Program.

Child Safe Environments-reporting child abuse and neglect (Formerly Mandatory Reporting)
This 7 hour course is designed to assist participants understand the issues, their obligations and to discover ways to protect young people from all forms of abuse. This is an accredited course that meets the assessment requirements and is approved by the Department for Families and Communities. The Statement of Completion that is issued is recognised by the Teacher's Registration Board and other organisations that require this training and is valid for three years.
The course teaches:
- What are the various forms of abuse
- How to recognise physical and behavioural indicators of abuse
- The value of early intervention
- About common values and the tendency to overlook abuse
- How and when to notify the authorities
- How to deal with concerns you may have in reporting abuse

Child Safe Environments-Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect (Refresher)
This is a three hour presentation which is suitable for schools or groups where participants have previously completed the full day course and wish to update their certification and training after a three year period.
Through doing this course you'll review the various forms of abuse, physical and behavioural indicators of abuse, the value of early intervention and any changes to the legal responsibilities to report suspicions.

This is a three hour information session which is suitable for volunteers and groups who have some contact with children, but do not have the level of responsibility for children that requires the full day course. This course is designed to provide workers, volunteers & individuals with tips and information on making best use of a household budget. It is especially relevant for people on low incomes or those working with people on low incomes.
Designed as a one or two day workshop.
Available for community groups and agencies involved in delivering services to low income households.

Basic Emergency Relief Training
This is a 2 day course designed to introduce Emergency Relief volunteers to the role of and issues in delivering the Emergency Relief program in South Australia and the Northern Territory to people who are in financial crisis. This training is funded by the Australian Government.
This program depends on Commonwealth funding and training opportunities will be advertised on our website at lccare.org.au as funding becomes available.
Through doing this course you'll undersand the role of ER and financial counselling, worker values and attitudes, poverty issues, agency resources and networking, advocacy and referral processes and communication skills and interviews.

Budget Skills Training
This is a 2 day course designed to provide experienced Emergency Relief volunteers and workers with the knowledge, skills and practical tools to provide a Budget Counselling service as a bridge between Emergency Relief and Financial Counselling. This training is funded by the Australian Government.
Topics include: how to produce Income and Expenditure Statements and use as a counselling tool; short-term money plans; preparing for negotiations with utilities and other creditors; debt collection issues and agency issues of policy, privacy, records etc.
This program depends on Commonwealth funding. Training opportunities will be advertised on our website at lccare.org.au as funding becomes available. Through doing this course you'll learn: the roles of ER, budget counselling & financial counselling; practical steps of budget counselling; client needs, values, attitudes and choices.
Advanced Emergency Relief and Budget Skills Training
This is a two day training course – the pre-requisite for registering to attend is completion of the Basic Budget Skills Training course.
Topics include: developing more detailed money plans; negotiation skills with partners and families about money issues; credit reporting; dealing with clients with complex needs and sensitive money problems; difficult behaviour; and cultural awareness.
The course is funded by the Australian Government. Courses will be advertised on our website as funding becomes available.
This 2 day course provides further training for managers who have completed the Basic ER Training. It is funded by the Australian Government. Training opportunities are advertised on our website at lccare.org.au as funding becomes available.
Topics covered in this training include managing volunteers, networking skills, service models, managing clients with difficult behaviour, welfare rights and advocacy.

Safe Place - Initial Training
This course is offered to people working or volunteering within the Lutheran Church of Australia so that they are aware of the issues, their rights and obligations in relation to harassment and abuse as forms of sexual abuse. A certificate is issued (valid for 3 years).
Through doing this course you'll learn about the approach taken by the Church to harassment and sexual abuse, the range of behaviours covered by the Safe Place Policy, how and when to report any harassment or abuse and the procedures that are followed when a complaint is made.
Cost: $20.00 (Concessions apply for LCC staff & volunteers)

Safe Place - Refresher Training

This course has been created specifically to equip people to provide training for others working or volunteering within the Lutheran Church of Australia so that they are aware of the issues, their rights and obligations in relation to harassment and abuse as forms of sexual abuse. Dealing with Difficult People
This is a 1 day course designed to provide Emergency Relief volunteers and workers with skills and practical tips for dealing with difficult behaviours from clients. This training has a focus on understanding anger and mental health issues, how to respond t different types of risk; communicating in difficult situations, case studies drawn from Emergency Relief experience and looking after yourself. It is funded by the Australian Government and held as funding is made available.
